Durable, affordable, energy efficient, and sustainable? Could that be the future characteristics of every building? It could be. A company in Miami, Florida called Innovida has that goal in mind. Their solution is to build with fiber composite panels (FCP) they are designed to be energy efficient, affordable, high quality and faster to build than other products on the market. Another marketable factor of their design is that its hurricane resistant, fire resistant, insect resistant, and waterproof.
Fiber Composite panels are load-bearing, insulated panels which are comprised of structural skins made of high-strength E-glass fiber fabrics, wrapped around a foam core which is fire resistant polymeric epoxy resin. The fiber composite material can be used to make exterior and interior walls, beams, columns, and roofing. It is very malleable and can be molded into any shape. It can be left raw, or finished with stone, stucco, paint, wallpaper, or other coverings.
Most panels are available in different sizes and can be used for structures up to three stories high. The prefab also includes cut-outs for windows, doorways, curves and angles. These materials have been available for atleast a decade, but for some reason they have only just now hit the construction industry.
Innovida was founded in 2005. It has operations in Germany, Africa, India, South America, and the Middle East. It plans to build 10 factories in the United States.
Innovida has also pledged 1,000 homes to rebuilding efforts in Haiti.
